Service Description

Juniper® Paragon Automation provides AI-enabled, cloud-delivered automation. The solution makes network automation intuitively easy while enabling organizations to evolve to AIOps and better support their network and service lifecycle, from Day 0 to Day 2. With Paragon Automation, organizations can reduce time to revenue, accelerates service delivery, and significantly reduce mean time to know (MTTK) and mean time to repair (MTTR). It dramatically boosts productivity and speed, along with continually enabling amazing experiences, both for end users and the operators that run the networks.

Paragon Automation is changing the way network and service automation is delivered to make it faster, easier, and error-free. Network operators can rapidly achieve desired business outcomes with Paragon Automation, focusing on specific use cases when and where needed, according to the operator’s priorities and requirements.

Juniper has reimagined the way network automation is experienced through design that is incredibly simple. Paragon Automation is like having an easy button for operations! It enables field technicians to consistently onboard network devices without hiccups, while giving network operations engineers full visibility and insights to proactively prevent service-impacting issues. With Paragon Automation, you can navigate the skilled labor shortage era by dramatically boosting productivity and increasing operational efficiency. The AI enabler significantly reduces MTTK and MTTR, and makes automation faster, and more consistent and efficient.

Juniper Paragon Automation is cloud-delivered as software as a service (SaaS). Instead of the present mode of operations of waiting months to a year or more, operators can deploy use cases 70% faster while reducing deployment and maintenance costs by up to 40% (Source: Analysys Mason 2022).

With cloud-delivered network automation, you gain:

  • Quick deployment and readiness
  • Anywhere/anytime access
  • Cost-effective operations with lower maintenance overhead
  • Greater flexibility and reduced operational complexity
  • High reliability and elastic scaling
  • Seamless product upgrades with new releases and patches maintained by Juniper.

Features and Benefits

Device Life-cycle Management

Juniper Paragon Automation provides automated, consistent, and secure Device Life-cycle Management which maintains the entire device lifecycle including Day–2 and –1 automation of onboarding plans, guided device field installations, configuration, updates, compliance audits, software/hardware end-of-life checks, as well as AI-driven monitoring and problem troubleshooting for Day 1 and 2 operations. Inventory is also automatically updated.

Orchestrated design for onboarding and change management

Paragon Automation provides a Day –2 and –1 orchestration design application that centers on intent—making intentions reality. It makes it possible for specific planning activities for a procedure to be done automatically in advance fora field technician. During device onboarding, for example, the field technician can rely on Paragon Automation to automate the process.  The intent model for device onboarding orchestration design makes the process elegantly simple and efficient. By reducing the number of steps and providing much guidance to the field technicians, the automation makes it extremely easy for them to onboard new devices and make future updates.

Automated onboarding workflows

Field technicians initiate the secure, automated device onboarding after the intents are designed and configuration templates created. Using a mobile phone, the technician signs on to the Paragon Automation field technician application to trigger Paragon Automation, specifically for that device.

Paragon Automation images the latest software, performs secure zero-touch configuration and provisioning, checks device health and network performance, and updates inventory so that devices are fully ready for service in minutes.

Meanwhile at the backend, network operation center (NOC) engineers have full oversight on every onboarding activity happening across the network. Thanks to Paragon Automation, engineering and operation teams are in sync with the network state in real time. After the field technician completes the workorder, the network is AIOps ready for Day 1 and 2 operations.

Network Trust and Compliance

Paragon Automation provides automated, consistent, and reliable network trust and compliance that can verify, confirm, and quantify the trust aspects of the network to help network operators to maintain trustworthy networks. It measures the risk of integrity impairment and trust posture of network infrastructure. At the same time, Paragon Automation provides insight and non-intrusive validation of trustworthiness and reliability throughout the network.

While machines cannot demonstrate trust like humans, they can exhibit reliability and accuracy, which inspires confidence and trust in their abilities. Paragon’s network trust and compliance focuses on quantifying the trustworthiness of Juniper equipment and the networks in which they run. Assigning network trust scores highlights the reliability and trustworthiness of Juniper equipment and offers valuable insights into equipment performance and early issue detection.

Paragon Automation provides an intuitive user interface with easy-to-use dashboards, alarms and notifications on actionable integrity impairments, a network trust score, trust score graphs, and more. This information helps ensure that your networks stay trustworthy end-to-end. Key features and functionality are:

  • A standardized and objective method for evaluating the trustworthiness of a device
  • Trust-score calculation based on prerequisite, variable, and reputational factors
  • Customizable trust score calculation to suit different use cases and customer requirements
  • Integration with compliance standards, vulnerability assessments, and more
  • Comparative analysis and benchmarking of devices based on trust scores
  • Visual representation of trust scores using graphs and indicators

With a network trust score, you gain a quantifiable measurement that indicates the level of network trust. The score is made up of three factor groups:

  • Prerequisite: conditions that must be met to receive a non-zero score (Is the software Juniper certified or not?
  • Variable: factors that provide a weighted trust contribution (Is the software a known good value or not?)
  • Reputational: Incremental trust contributions earned over time (Has the number of reboots of a device exceeded a predefined threshold?)

Network Observability

NOC engineers rely on the Juniper AI-enabled network observability application to easily detect and investigate issues. It goes beyond event views to list alarms, alerts, and syslog messages. It also presents high-level Day 2 supervision views that aggregate all the volumes of telemetry and other monitoring data. Paragon Automation automatically deduces what is seen for network observability according to the orchestrated designed plan. The user is not distracted by too much information since the most relevant information is designed into the intent of the process from the start. Operators can focus on key outcomes such as SLA adherence, network health, and key networks issues that might impact uptime and other KPIs.

With only a quick look at the dashboard, network operators can see an overview of the network’s health and a physical network topology with connectivity and status indicators to show where urgent issues reside. Dashboards show areas of interest where problems are occurring across devices, the network, interfaces, services, or overall trust compliance.

Paragon Automation’s network observability application also enables fault management and troubleshooting through filterable alert, device alarm, and device log list views.

Supervision for device onboarding and Day 2 operations

Through Paragon Automation’s network observability, NOC engineers can supervise field technicians who are performing onboarding and decide which devices are ready for service, as well as continuously monitor Day 2 operations. Using the intuitive dashboard views, operators can see all issues across the network and investigate further when necessary.

Dashboards give a quick and simplified at-a-glance view that highlights the key metrics and moves them to the top. Those that are most severe and urgent are prominent and easy to identify. Based on these indicators, the NOC engineer can investigate and triage problems and troubleshoot to remediate the issues. Once ready, engineers can perform remote testing to validate that performance objectives are being met. Then, with the click of a button the operator can place the network device into service.

Paragon Automation’s Network Observability integrates active assurance which works by measuring what matters directly: end-to-end service quality. It does this by actively sending a small amount of synthetic L2 through L7 traffic on the data plane to simulate an end user. With active assurance you can continuously measure one-way delay and jitter on the end-to-end customer service and within each of the network segments supporting a service. This allows you to pinpoint potential issues in the service delivery. Network operators can then continually and automatically validate performance against objectives. They can detect when customer services do not meet guaranteed performance levels, better locate problems, and troubleshoot them so corrective actions are taken before experience is impacted.
